Should we ban deep offshore oil drilling until they can come up with a plan that works?

The US produces about 10% of the world’s oil, about 30% comes from offshore, and to be overly generous, 75% is deep water. So, only about 2% of oil production comes from deep offshore wells.
Therefore, the effect on the change of price is easily dwarfed by the day to day speculation effect on price.

Probably.. but it will never happen.. the oil companies contributions to illegal campaigning is way too strong. Our politicians have put us in this position. Why do you think Obama is so silent against BP?

New oil and natural gas drilling announcements from the Obama administration, which will certainly fire up the base as Obama often refers to, but possibly in the wrong direction.

Given that Republicans have already said they will not cooperate with the President as a result of his work on healthcare, will opening up a little bit of oil drilling really help his cause with the GOP?
