Angola in southwest Africa is about the size of Germany and France combined, but with a fraction of the population, just 12 million people. Over a third live in the capital Luanda. After a protracted and brutal war, Angola won independence from Portugal in 1975. Since then the country has been torn apart by almost continuous civil war – 27 years of it. In April 2002 the warring sides finally signed peace accords, and Angolans could at last look forward to rebuilding their country in peace.

But they still face enormous problems. Angola is one of the ten poorest countries in the world, where according to UN figures, 82% of people live on less than a dollar a day. And yet its a country with enormous oil wealth, whose government earns more than five billion dollars a year in oil revenues.

is it true that vegetable oil is used for public electric power plants?

Posted by admin on March 18th, 2010 and filed under oil production plant | 3 Comments »

if yes, why if it’s more expensive than biodiesel production ?
is it a green solution or what ?

no it’s not true.
there isn’t nearly enough of it to burn to produce electricity in a major power plant.

What could GW Bush do about the high cost of Auto Fuel?

Posted by admin on March 16th, 2010 and filed under oil production plant | 13 Comments »

He could order high test be removed from the market. Diverting that refining capacity to Regular.
This would increase the stocks of Regular and lower it’s price.
He could order a 20 percent reduction in Jet fuel use domestically. Diverting that refining capacity to regular Auto fuel.
He could order a 20 percent reduction in Jet fuel use by domestic airlines. Diverting that refining capacity to regular Auto fuel.
He could subsidize Ethanol plant buildings for Auto Fuel, that would lower the price of new plants.
What will he do? Nothing. GW Bush only takes action on the problems that effect the wealthy, he never takes action on any problem that effects working class Americans. GW Bush would never do anything to stop big oil profits from rolling in and his own party’s Contributions from big oil. Congress is also useless. Democrats are spineless.
Gasoline production= 9 million barrels per day.
Refinery’s running at 90.2 percent of capacity.
Gasoline demand= 9.14 million barrels per day.
BTW, drilling is not the problem. Only idiots think that. Refining capacity is the problem. GW Bush is the problem. Bush could also release the Federal Oil reserve and all of above could be done by executive order, don’t need the do nothing Congress..

Reduction is not the problem, we need more supply. The short term solution is cutting gas tax at state and federal level. Then make 1 national blend.

Long term

Build new refineries
Drill domestically.

Early 1990ies – Last Trip inside the V-1 and V-2 Underground Plant in Harz

Vintage and modern shots (these are documenting the last exploration of the site before the sealing of the access points) from the underground Kohnstein Galleries in Harz.
The facility was the V-1 and V-2 missiles production plant and, at the end of the war, the US Army discovered in the place thousands of slave workers from the East. Rare color photos of the plant and the workers during the production of the V-2 are also shown.
The galleries, pratically untouched since 1945, plenty of V-2 abandoned engines plus other important relics of the Nazi era, are now permanently closed to the public, with the exception of the main entrance, showing a 1:1 V-2 reproduction we can see near the end of the clip (at 07:43).

Rain forrests are being cut down because of what we eat?

Posted by admin on March 14th, 2010 and filed under oil production plant | 18 Comments »

The forrest of borneo is being cut down to make way for production of palm oil, which is in most the foods we eat (look on the ingredients lables next time in tesco). Does anyone think we should show willing toward whats right and boycott anything with palm oil in? Most palm oil is produced from such areas as borneo, where the cutting down of trees is destroying hundreds of species of plants/trees as well as wildlife and endangering orangitangs.
Oil from these regions is also used in hydrenated fat which is in most mass produced foods this fat is also bad for us so why do we buy it?
Lets not destroy the environments of this great world and our own health, pleese anyone reading this stop buying products with palm oil in and hydrenated fats. It Kills!
People have mentioned meat consumption causing the same problems here, it doesnt have to be if meat is sourced from the right place, ie not mcdonbalds, infact if we all tryed getting localy grown food our health would be better for it. Theres no need for destroying these environments apart from mass prdoucers making huge profits, which we people can stop by being sensible about out lifestyle and what we choose to buy and eat. It’s not as hard as some think, in fact its easy and will do most people more good.

If you were a citizen of Borneo, and you had a choice of looking at your property full of forest or a property full of income producing palm trees, which do you think would be better for you?

As far as going veggie, do you have any idea how many bunnies are destroyed annually by planting and harvesting veggie and soy crops?

Violence in Mexico could threaten U.S. oil imports?

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2010 and filed under oil production plant | 3 Comments »

WASHINGTON — When saboteurs blew up several natural-gas pipelines in central Mexico this month, temporarily shutting down production for U.S. automakers and other important manufacturers, a small and shadowy Marxist guerrilla group called the Popular Revolutionary Army reportedly claimed responsibility.

Four explosions in the Bajio, a central region that’s both the stronghold of the ruling conservative National Action Party and a big manufacturing zone, disrupted the flow of natural gas between Mexico City and Guadalajara, the country’s two biggest cities, and paralyzed pipelines in Veracruz and Guanajuato states.

General Motors and Nissan are said to have lost millions of dollars in production at their plants in the region.

Question – What are your thoughts ?

Such things need to be watched closely.

The truly difficult thing to do will be to try and make the Mexican government care enough to do something about it.

can someone help me write a summary on this science article?

i need this for tomorrow and im not soo good at ready so can you helo me please
Environmental pollution is the release of environmental contaminants, generally resulting from human activity.

Carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides produced by industry and motor vehicles are common air pollutants.

Arguably the principal source of air pollutants worldwide is motor vehicle emissions, although many other sources have been found to contribute to the ever growing problem.

Principal stationary pollution sources include chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, nuclear waste disposal activity, incinerators, large animal farms, PVC factories, metals production factories, plastics factories, and other heavy industry.

Pollutants can cause disease, including cancer, lupus, immune diseases, allergies, and asthma.

Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans. Motor vehicle emissions are one of the leading causes of air pollution.

Principal stationary pollution sources include chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, petrochemical plants, nuclear waste disposal activity, incinerators, large livestock farms (dairy cows, pigs, poultry, etc.), PVC factories, metals production factories, plastics factories, and other heavy industry. Some of the more common soil contaminants are chlorinated hydrocarbons (CFH), heavy metals (such as chromium, cadmium–found in rechargeable batteries, and lead — found in lead paint, aviation fuel and still in some countries, gasoline), MTBE, zinc, arsenic and benzene.

Ordinary municipal landfills are the source of many chemical substances entering the soil environment (and often groundwater), emanating from the wide variety of refuse accepted, especially substances illegally discarded there, or from pre-1970 landfills that may have been subject to little control in the U.S.

or EU. Pollution can also be the consequence of a natural disaster.

For example, hurricanes often involve water contamination from sewage, and petrochemical spills from ruptured boats or automobiles.

Larger scale and environmental damage is not uncommon when coastal oil rigs or refineries are involved.

Some sources of pollution, such as nuclear power plants or oil tankers, can produce widespread and potentially hazardous releases when accidents occur. Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans.

Ozone pollution can cause respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, throat inflammation, chest pain, and congestion.

Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly due to contamination of drinking water by untreated sewage in developing countries.

Oil spills can cause skin irritations and rashes.

Noise pollution induces hearing loss, high blood pressure, stress, and sleep disturbance..

The human source of pollutants, of which causes death and disease in humans and also animals, is as varied as the common car, factories, technology industries, is very great and obviously dangerous. Despite human attempts at containment, destructive natural phenomena can vex these intentions, spreading more than its’ share of distruction.

Why is W. supporter and TX oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens supporting alt energy plans?

Posted by admin on March 8th, 2010 and filed under oil production plant | 6 Comments »

Pickens said the plan could cut the amount the country spends annually on foreign oil from $700 billion to $400 billion. He proposed the following steps:

1. Using the United States’ wind corridor, private industry will fund the installation of thousands of wind turbines in the wind belt, generating enough power to provide 20 percent or more of the country’s electricity supply.
2. Again funded by the private sector, electric power transmission lines will be built, connecting these wind power generating sites with the power grid, providing energy to the population centers in the Midwest, South and Western regions of the country.
3. With the energy from wind now available to serve the large population centers in key areas of the country, the natural gas that was historically used to fuel natural gas-fired power plants can be redirected and used as a fuel for private cars and thousands of vehicles in the transportation system. This reduces the need for imported gasoline and diesel fuels.

According to Ray Bradley of the Institute for Energy Research, who has analyzed the plan, the Pickens plan relies on special government mandates and large subsidies.

Effects on the environment

The Pickens Plan significantly reduces carbon dioxide emmisions because it shifts a percentage of electricity production from combustion to carbon neutral wind power. Automobiles would still produce carbon dioxide whether combusting natural gas or gasoline, but combustion of gasoline produces much larger amounts of nitrogen oxides than combustion of natural gas. Nitrogen oxides are a major air pollutant and cause brownish atmospheric smog.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._Boone_Pickens#Political_interests_and_contributions

Pickens is 80 years old and a billionaire, he’s not doing this to make money. At his age, I think he actually cares about leaving a good legacy and genuinely wants to make his plan happen for the good of the country.

I think it’s a good plan and I’ve seen nothing out there nearly as comprehensive. What’s smart is the natural gas aspect. Cars can be converted quickly to run on natural gas because the technology is already available. Wind technology is also available and can be done quickly. Both are also very cost effective. Government subsidies are necessary to get things going now. It would be one of the best investments we could ever make as taxpayers.

BTW, people do not realize that significant advances have been made in the development of solar power through nano technolgy. See nanosolar.com. Many predict solar will be lower than 5 cents per kilowatt in less than 7 years. We just need to hang on until then!
