There are two school of thoughts regarding the oil reserves we have now, one is that the oil reserves will still provide 40 years of consumption at the current rate. Two, the alarming prediction that global production of oil is set to peak in the next four years before entering a steepening decline which will have massive consequences for the world economy and the way that we live our lives. Scientist Dr. Colin Campbell, is a former chief geologist and vice-president at a string of oil majors including BP, Shell, Fina, Exxon and ChevronTexaco, the head of the depletion centre, said: "It’s quite a simple theory and one that any beer drinker understands. The glass starts full and ends empty and the faster you drink it the quicker it’s gone." What are we going to do once the oil reserves around the world one by one has dried up esp. in the Philippines we have thousands or millions of cars. What are we going to do with them once there is no more gasoline or diesel to be purchase at the gas station? Its time to make them a kulahan ng damit or bangka when flood comes? I believe in the universal theory that everything that has a beginning, must have an end. Are we going to act only when that time comes? That is why if you remembered, I ask why don’t we produce solar type cars. You said it is expensive and requires a lot of time for research but we are not researching further on other type that will not require the use of fossil fuel. Are we? We are a bunch of people just waiting for the sky to fall on us in order to act immediately but too late actually. Look at what happen to Metro Manila during Ondoy and Peping we were caught flat footed. We absolutely do not know what is happening in our midst or surroundings. This is simply Filipino mentality once again. Who will always brag "it will never happen", but it did. What then? I am concern because we are NOT an industrialize nation, and will probably wouldn’t become one. Some say ako daw iyong "ngawa ng ngawa wala naman ginagawa" well if I have 1 billion dollars I can turn the Philippines around 360 degrees and concentrate on science and technology the only option we have to be industrialize. But I am not rich neither one of you here. I want to do something for the Philippines, naturally because I am a Filipino but think like German, French and Italian, I do not think like Filipino just look around the Philippine section to find out how ppl ask their questions. I’m not your regular run of the mill who ask mediocre questions here. I’ m here to learn not to earn. Nigeria oil reserves will dry up in 2040. What do you think? Thanks for any responses.
So Dr. TJ we have 40-60 years from now until the well dries up, and raising through time finding alternative energy source maybe that is in the US while in the Philippines, ppl are just waiting what the US will do next in the coming 60 years. We do not have research facilities or even funding to gather Filipino inventors and search for ourselves alternative energy in our own turf. This Filipino guy who said that he can turn water into a source of energy he completely disappeared also. Philippines cannot even create a car of its own, like the Koreans did. The problem is also the fewer we get the oil the higher the price it will take because of the scarcity of the sources or places to look for and most importantly the equipments to dig into the ground. We shouldn’t have use fossil fuel in the first place not only polluting the environment creating global change but health hazard to ppl.

The US, Canada and Russia have HUGE natural gas reserves only the ones in Russia are well exploited today.
Light weight reasonably priced very efficient battery technology is nearly here as are effective solar panels. If solar panel technology “output” can continue improving as it is now hydrogen would soon become a reasonable fuel for internal combustion engines. Those in use today can be retrofitted to use hydrogen. “Pollution” from a hydrogen powered engine are H2O and Oxygen.

Could you please explain a disadvantage of specialising in the production of oil for a country such as Saudi Arabia?

I think Saudi Arabia is predicted the reserved oil will last for the next 15 years. The Saudi government and the US specialists in oil production have raised the concern about the Saudi Arabia specialized in oil production only in a desert country where the land is not fertile for agriculture. Sooner or later, Saudi Arabia will run out of oil. The 60 Minutes TV show once described the spokesperson of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is likely to produce and export the Solar Energy because of the sunshine always there. Without royalty from oil production, those king’s family members will not that rich anymore.

…demand, what would be the impact on world oil prices? U.S. Prices?
John McCain and many others call for for 100% of U.S. oil needs being met by domestic production, through a combination of drilling, building new refineries, and conservation measures, including alternative sources. If we were able to achieve this goal in a comparatively short time, how would world oil prices be impacted? If demand for oil goes up in other parts of the world, will U.S. oil prices float with the world markets, or will they remain steady?

That would require about a tripling of production and refining capacity. And a tripling of the rate of depletion. Not cheap, and probably not even remotely possible.

Oil prices would have to go way up to pay for all that expensive drilling for not much oil per well or for very long. Remember that the cost to produce oil in Arabia is about $4/barrel, so there’s no way that US oil production can compete.

No company in the history of commerce has charged less than the going rate, so don’t expect "American" oil companies to do so.
