@chance1234asdf 1. … @chance1234asdf 1. Chavez won 3 fair elections plus a recall vote, he does not own any news organizations. Poverty there has decreased by 22% in the last decade (google) 2. people employed by the government are not politicians. Corrupt politicians should be voted out and charged. 3. Whose level of success? There is more than 10% unemployment in the US!
1. Since dictator, … 1. Since dictator, Chavez took over, the poverty level in Venezuela has more than tripled and is on the rise. Of course, if you listen to the news organizations there, you wouldn’t know that (he owns those too). 2) you can’t imagine who would agree with “giving them to the politicians?” Uh … how about the politicians that make the laws. Duh. More govt jobs, less private sector 3) what works in smaller countries that have never reached our level of success, will not fly in America.
@chance1234asdf 1 … @chance1234asdf 1 Venezuelans are not starving and 2 the oil proceeds could put towards the public budget or be parceled out to residents like in Alaska. I can’t imagine anyone who’d agree with giving the proceeds to politicians can you? 3 Most European states have a mixed economy and are quite prosperous, as opposed to Haiti for example, whose economic sector has been deregulated and privatized to the point impoverishment.
Yeah. Let’s … Yeah. Let’s nationalize the oil industry. They make normal margins, so let’s take them over like they did in Venezuela. Then we could take over other industries that liberals off. Then the politicians could be filthy rich and the rest of us could starve like like the people of Venezuela. EVERY TIME THIS IS TRIED, THE PEOPLE SUFFER TERRIBLY! CAN’T YOU IDIOTS LOOK BACK FIVE MINUTES?!
We don’t have to … We don’t have to fully disagree but were not on the same page. If a natural resource happens to be on public land then it would belong to all of us. When oil is collected from those sights then it is a company’s obligation to only charge a fair price for the work they do. However if the land belongs to an individual or corp then its theirs. The oil indus. is not a good example of profiting off of others misery. And we the people create the demand for those operations.
@spunnout We are … @spunnout We are going to have agree to disagree that natural resources should be owned by corporations.
In most nations, and even in the state of Alaska, when oil companies receive contracts they sign agreements acknowledging that the resources belong to the residents of that particular country.
I don’t think a person can be deemed a success when they are profiting from another’s misery. Just look at the way fuel prices are manipulated.. that is not success it’s fraud.
You are blessed to … You are blessed to be in America and you are far from owning its natural resources. You are not entitled come along and take what others worked hard for.
You’re allowed to pursue wealth the same any other American. So because some have great success we should take it from them so everyone can have it? If anyone decided to take whatever your wealth was and distribute it elsewhere you wouldn’t be so supportive.
They are currently … They are currently under “democratic” oversight, as they must obey the laws of the USA(and they do). Your “benefit” of nationalization is non-existant. If you want to target an industry for “environmental impact” try agriculture, but good luck getting government to help you with that.
Many people do in fact “gamble” on the market in the process of saving for retirement. Gambling is a term used by people who know very little about markets.
Judging from the … Judging from the environmental destruction, corruption and labor abuses wrought by the oil industry they don’t seem to be doing a such a great job running businesses. If it was nationalized and nonprofit there could be democratic oversight and accountability.
I want to add that most people work for a wage and do not make their living gambling on the stock market.
@spunnout The US is … @spunnout The US is my country and its natural resources are mine so I’ll stay where I am.
I question the received wisdom of social darwinism. I think a nonprofit committee of ordinary citizens would do a better job of supervising oil operations than businessmen who are only interested in creating wealth for themselves. Fossil fuels are a key resource and too important to give away to private enterprise.
@cosmicharlie1970 … @cosmicharlie1970 You are highly insulting and unable to form a cogent argument supporting your views. I no longer wish to speak with you.
Move to communist … Move to communist country then. Let Americans be greedy but give total control any government and you will see disaster as history has shown over and over. And you assume too much about how hard the business class works. After all if it were that easy you would be one of them too and not crying foul.
This woman is a … This woman is a omplete moron. She failes to understand even the basics of the federal reserve and is still allowed to question Ben Bernanke. She is on the list of the top 10 most corrupt politicians in congress. What are we doing allowing a person like this to represent America??
America – … America – capitalism – most prosperous nation in the history of the world. USSR – communism – untold human suffering. And you’re arguing for communism. That makes you an idiot. A useful idiot.
Why not nationalize … Why not nationalize everything then, you commie symp? From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs. Useful idiot.
Not to spam you … Not to spam you with responses, the owners decide the wages of the management.
Additionally, if you believe nationalization is “missing out” I think you should look at the effects of nationalization had upon the oil industry in Venezuela.
Ordinary people … Ordinary people both own(stocks) and operate(employees) the oil companies. I think you fail to realize that a private company is owned by the people you think you are championing.
In reality, nationalization, is the theft of labor of those individuals. Additionally, government has naught the ability to run a company any larger than a lemonade stand(effectively).
I was once where you are today, so perhaps you too can learn about the elegance of capitalism.
@cosmicharlie1970 … @cosmicharlie1970 Again, insults do not enhance your argument and it damages your credibility as a commenter and interlocutor.
My country, the USA, has not nationalized any oil companies, which means we are missing out while the business class is making a profit. The laborers work very hard, unlike the managers you seem to venerate who give themselves bonuses.
The people are the government, at least theoretically, and I would prefer our natural resources to be democratically supervised.
Natural resources … Natural resources are not exclusively controlled by the business class, chucklehead. At least seven of the 10 largest oil companies in the world are state-owned, despite what Maxine Waters thinks. And the eevil oil companies buy the land and mineral rights, or lease the land from the government, and then work very hard to find, retrieve, ship, refine, ship, and sell those natural resources.
But really, you should be convincing me why the government should be able to take private property.
@cosmicharlie1970 … @cosmicharlie1970 It’s not clever nor wise to call names at people you disagree with. It’s doubly wrong to use Down’s Syndrome as an epithet. I do not drive or buy gas.
Now convince me why natural resources should be exclusively controlled by the business class.
