Should Iraq be partitioned to pay back the US for the $400 billion cost of the war in future oil production?

Furthermore, if our troops are to remain in Iraq for Middle East security reasons, should the United States also be paid by Iraq for the cost of such future presence in oil and also be given a right of first refusal at market rates on all future Iraqi oil production? As part of that process should Iraq and its oil production be partitioned among the Sunni, Shia, and Kurds with the Shia to govern themselves and Saudi Arabia as protector of the Sunni and the United States as protector of the Kurds with our troops based in the Kurd sector ready to respond where needed in the Middle East as well as to protect this partition? The deadline for this partition should be no more than 18 months and then US troop levels could probably be cut substantially under this scenario.

they never asked us to invade so no, they shouldnt be forced to pay reparations.

They do not need to be partitioned to do this!

Just force them to pay it – or take over their Oil facilities until we have been paid in full!

No. We (The US) went to Iraq voluntarily. There should be no compensation. If there is compensation, it will confirm what people in the region have long claimed that the US was in this war not for the good of the Iraqi people but for oil.

Sure, it’s been imposed on defeated countries before. Why not make them pay for their "freedom"? If they didn’t have oil, we wouldn’t be there in the first place, we might have stayed in Afghanistan instead of cutting-n-run there.

    No…

For the same reasons The South was excused for paying the Civil War. Same reasons for European countries from having to pay full amount of debt after WWII.

When it didn’t happen after WW I, Germany was under heavy debt, unemployment, and economic meltdown. Perfect scenario for Hitler to go into power. If we do it in Iraq, it will become perfect place for someone dangerous to sweep into office.

Did Iraq invite us to come and wreck their country? No, I don’t think so. I believe we will all be paying for years for Bush’s arrogance.

Who are we kidding? W stuck a tree branch into a hive of killer bees and now they want to sting the hell out of us. As the occupying force, we have to rebuild their infrastructure because we destroyed it but also we can rewrite their laws. We can make ourselves sole customers of their oil. We can make them sell us the oil at 50% OPEC rates until they pay us back as calculated from the remaining 50%. This will give them incentive to get their act together because the longer we’re there the more they owe. But let’s face it, they’re in a civil war so we’ll never leave. This will give us a long-term oil supply that we can sell to China at OPEC-5% rates after we replenish our reserves. We use the money and buy back our Treasury Bonds. The US shouldn’t be using more oil anyway. The Middle East hates the US. They always will. We need to get over it.
