Oil Hits 18-Month High

Crude oil prices have climbed to an 18-month high, just over the $87 a barrel mark. Many economists are pegging the rise in oil prices as a sign that the U.S. economy is finally beginning to break out of its slump as job growth in March showed the biggest gain in three years. Fadel Gheit, senior energy analyst at Oppenheimer, provides analysis.

Building the Giant Agbami FPSO Vessel – Chevron Human Energy Stories

The giant Agbami Field is one of the largest deepwater oil offshore discoveries in Nigeria. It’s estimated to hold potentially recoverable volumes of 900 million barrels of crude oil and natural gas liquids and is expected to reach a maximum daily production rate of 250,000 barrels. The cornerstone of the development is one of the world’s largest floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, shown here as it was towed to the site. Key components of the FPSO were fabricated in Nigeria, setting a benchmark for using Nigerian goods, labor and services. Agbami represents not only a new source of energy supply, but also provides employment and economic opportunities for Nigeria.

Kudlow interviews the Sierra Club about the environmental benefits of offshore oil production

Larry Kudlow interview of Sierra Club director following President Obama’s announcement to expand offshore exploration. In the interview we hear that the Sierra Club executive director could care less that offshore oil has been proven to reduce oil seepage pollution on California beaches. It shows that the Sierra club has no real interest in California having cleaner beaches. Why doesn’t the Sierra Club celebrate that in California we are getting cleaner beaches while producing domestic energy resources? The Sierra Club executive director has no interest in giving up all the oil-based products he uses, he just likes to attack the companies that produce the product he uses every day.
